You will stay with your fellow interns in a comfortable, furnished apartment that includes a fully equipped kitchen as well as internet and a TV with DVD player.

The apartment is a short taxi ride or walk to all the local attractions Cozumel has to offer.  Several restaurants are located nearby as well as shopping and grocery stores. 

You are not required to stay in our housing.  If you would prefer private accomodations or a hotel package, we will be happy to assist you.

What to expect

Depending on the time of your arrival in Cozumel, transportation will be provided to either Dive Boutique Cozumel for an orientation to your program, or you will be taken to your accomodations to unwind from your travels.

You have a six day work week and your weekly day off will be consistent throughout your Internship.  Each day will begin on the dock of Dive Boutique Cozumel at 7:30 and generally end at 5:00; though, if there are evening activities scheduled, your day may run longer. 

You will start off the morning assiting our staff, and other interns, with loading the boats and getting any rental equipment prepared.  The day will then be broken down into a mix of diving, academics, and instruction.

Required Equipment

We recomend that you have your own personal equipment to ensure comfort and proper fit.  You will need your personal snorkeling gear and a full set of scuba gear.  This consists of:

  • BCD
  • Regulator 
  • Gauges
  • Dive Computer
  • Mask
  • Fins
  • Snorkel

In addition to the above you will also need the following safety equipment:

  • Surface Marker Buoy and Reel
  • Whistle
  • Compass

If you do not have this equipment or do not want to transport it we have discounted rental packages available for the duration of your program.  We also have a fully stocked store for anything you need.

How long are the programs?

Depending on your certification level and number of logged dives you have at the beginning  of your Internship, the duration of your internship will vary in length.   Based on your experience, the below time frames allow for the completion of  your Internship while allowing one day off a week

  • Non- certified to Divemaster (Zero to Hero) 10 weeks
  • Open Water to Divemaster 8 weeks
  • Advanced Open Water to Divemaster 7 weeks
  • Rescue Diver to Divemaster 5 weeks
  • Instructor Development Course 2 weeks

If you are planning on completing your PADI Instructor Development Course, please be aware that you are required to have been a certified diver for at least six months.

What is the cost?

The price of your internship depends on your level of certification when you start the program.  For specific pricing contact us and let us know your current level of certification.  Please note that the PADI Divemaster Application fee is not included in our price

What are my responsibilities as an intern?

Along with your training and lots of diving, you will have some additional scheduled responsibilities as part of your internship.  These include: 

  • Staffing the dive shop, which includes guest check-in and signing up clients for activities
  • Assisting with the preparation of the dive boats, loading tanks, and guest equipment
  • Assisting the staff with divers, students, and other interns in their programs
  • Staff the Activities Center and coordinate and track rental equipment
  • Help with the overall customer flow and safety of divers
  • Occasional evenings will be required depending on dive activities

You will be representing Dive Boutique Cozumel/Cozumel Marine World in your daily interactions with our guests, hotel staff and and your fellow interns.  As such you  are also responsible for presenting a professional image while you participate in your Internship.

As a future dive professional we also strongly recommend you are a Divers Alert Network (DAN) member and have Divers Insurance

Can I stay and complete my Instructor Development Course if I decide to?

If you did not sign up for your PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) when you started your Divemaster Internship you can add your IDC and any other training you want at anytime during your program.
