How the PADI Advanced Open Water Course Works

During your Advanced Open Water course, you will complete five Adventure Dives. Two dives are required for all students:

Deep Adventure Dive
You will complete a deeper training dive beyond the normal Open Water depth limit. The maximum depth is generally 30 meters / 100 feet for standard Advanced Open Water Divers, or 21 meters / 70 feet for Junior Advanced Open Water Divers.

Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive
You will improve your underwater navigation skills using a compass, natural landmarks, kick cycles, and time.

You will then complete three additional Adventure Dives. Options may include:

  • Peak Performance Buoyancy
  • Boat Diving
  • Drift Diving
  • Night Diving
  • Fish Identification
  • Search and Recovery
  • Wreck Diving
  • Enriched Air Nitrox

Adventure Dive options may vary based on conditions, scheduling, and availability.
