We also stand behind your preparation. If you complete your IDC with Cozumel Dive Academy and do not pass your PADI Instructor Examination, you may attend another IDC with us at no additional course cost.
After successfully completing the IE, new instructors may also have the opportunity to team teach with an experienced instructor to build on their IDC training, continue developing real-world teaching confidence, and make the transition from newly certified instructor to working dive professional.

The IDC is the required instructor-development program for candidates preparing for the PADI Instructor Examination. Candidates must also meet all PADI prerequisites before certification as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, including holding an Emergency First Response Instructor rating or a qualifying CPR/first aid instructor equivalent.
PADI fees are paid directly to PADI and are not included in course fees.
Optional Emergency First Response Instructor Training
Emergency First Response Instructor (EFRI) training is available separately for candidates who need or want to add the EFR Instructor rating.
EFRI Course Fee: $500
EFRI training includes:

IDC Prerequisites
To enroll in the PADI IDC, candidates must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be certified as a PADI Divemaster or hold a qualifying leadership-level certification with another recognized recreational diver training organization
- Have been a certified diver for at least six months
- Have at least 60 logged dives to begin the IDC
- Have at least 100 logged dives before attending the PADI Instructor Examination
- Have current CPR and first aid training within the past 24 months
- Have a medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months
- Complete a diver rescue skills assessment if not certified as a PADI Divemaster
- Have personal dive accident insurance, such as DAN
Candidates must be Emergency First Response Instructors or hold a qualifying CPR/first aid instructor rating before certification as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor. EFRI training may be completed as part of your instructor training pathway.
Accommodations
Accommodations are not included in the Cozumel IDC course fee.
Candidates are responsible for arranging their own travel, lodging, meals, and personal expenses. Transportation is provided on scheduled training days.
How to Book Your Instructor Development Course
The first step is to contact Phillip to review your current certifications, logged dives, EFRI status, schedule, and professional goals.
Before enrollment, we will confirm that you meet the IDC prerequisites, review the upcoming Cozumel IDC dates, explain what is included, and help you plan any additional training you may need, such as EFRI or MSDT Prep.
Once your training plan is confirmed, a $600 deposit reserves your place and begins the enrollment process. This single deposit is applied toward your confirmed training plan, whether you are completing the IDC only or adding EFRI and/or MSDT Prep.
Payment and Cancellation Policy
A $600 deposit is required to reserve your place in the Cozumel IDC and begin the enrollment process. This deposit is applied toward your confirmed training plan, including IDC, EFRI, and/or MSDT Prep if selected.
PADI digital materials, including the IDC Crewpak and eLearning, are non-refundable once assigned or redeemed. If PADI digital materials have been assigned or redeemed, the cost of those materials cannot be refunded.
Course payments are non-refundable once the IDC has started. If a candidate needs to change dates before the program begins, we will make reasonable efforts to apply eligible payments toward a future IDC or professional training program, subject to schedule availability, PADI material status, and any third-party costs already incurred.
PADI fees, Instructor Examination fees, application fees, travel expenses, accommodations, meals, personal expenses, and third-party costs are not included in course fees and are the candidate’s responsibility.
