Develop the Skills to Evaluate, Counsel, and Mentor Instructor Candidates
Continue your professional development with the PADI IDC Staff Instructor Course in Cozumel at Dive Boutique Cozumel, home of Cozumel Dive Academy.
The IDC Staff Instructor rating is the next step for experienced PADI Instructors who want to become more involved in instructor development, assist with PADI Instructor Development Courses, and develop stronger evaluation, counseling, and mentorship skills.
Training is conducted by PADI Course Director Phillip Hetherington and is available either in conjunction with a scheduled PADI IDC or on an on-demand basis.
Course Format
The IDC Staff Instructor course is available in two formats, depending on IDC scheduling and candidate availability.
Scheduled IDC Format
When completed in conjunction with a scheduled PADI IDC, the IDC Staff Instructor course is conducted as a 16-day program.
The first two days are dedicated to IDC Staff Instructor preparation, including standards review, evaluation practice, counseling techniques, and orientation with the Course Director.
The remaining 14 days are completed by auditing the full scheduled IDC from the staff side. During this time, the IDC Staff Instructor candidate observes the instructor development process, practices evaluating candidate presentations, participates in counseling sessions, and works directly with the Course Director throughout the program.
This format allows the candidate to experience the full IDC process from a staff instructor perspective.
On-Demand Format
Because a full IDC is not always scheduled when an IDC Staff Instructor candidate is ready to train, Dive Boutique Cozumel also offers an on-demand IDC Staff Instructor course.
In this format, the candidate completes the required components of the PADI Assistant Instructor course under the Course Director's supervision and evaluation. This option allows the IDC Staff Instructor course to be completed by arrangement without waiting for a scheduled IDC.
What’s Included
The PADI IDC Staff Instructor Course includes the PADI IDC Staff Crewpac, Course Director-led training, evaluation practice, counseling practice, standards review, and participation in the selected course format.
Candidates completing the scheduled IDC format will also audit the full PADI IDC from the staff side.
Prerequisites
Candidates must meet PADI prerequisites for the IDC Staff Instructor rating, including teaching status PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer and current Emergency First Response Instructor status.
