The PADI Advanced Open Water course is all about experience and progression. You will complete five Adventure Dives, including the required Deep Dive and Underwater Navigation Dive, while also choosing from other adventure dive options based on conditions and your interests. During your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course, you will:
Complete five Adventure Dives. Two of these dives are required for all participants, and these dives are the following:
Deep Adventure Dive - On the Deep Adventure Dive, you will complete a dive beyond the 18/60' limit of your Open Water Course, generally to a maximum depth of 30m/100' or 21m/70" for the Junior Advanced Open Water Course.
Underwater Navigation - You will complete the Underwater Navigation Dive from shore. During this dive, you will improve your underwater navigation skills using your compass and natural landmarks.
You will then choose three more Adventure Dives. Options may include Night Diving, Wreck Diving, Search and Recovery, Drift Diving, or Enriched Air Nitrox.
As you read the chapters specific to the Adventure Dives you choose, you will also learn about:
- Practical aspects of deep diving
- Physiological effects of deeper scuba diving.
- More ways to use your underwater compass
- How to navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks, and time
- How to better use your dive computer
